Fantastic tour. Would thoroughly recommended to anyone interested in local food and culture. Laurent was a great guide and so hospitable allowing us into his home. Also big thanks to Anita and Kathy who also joined us and made us feel like friends not clients. Big thanks again for a wonderful look around Marseille.

My parents and I went on a cruise all throughout Europe, and Marseille was by far one of our favorite stops thanks to Laurent! He was full of so much knowledge and brought us into areas of the city that we would have never discovered without him. We got to taste not just French cuisine, but got an authentic experience by trying foods from all the different cultures that make up Marseille. He was such a pleasure to tour the city with! If you want to feel like a local rather than a tourist, this is for you!

Laurent picked us up at the port in Marseilles and took us to Sanary-Sur-Mer to experience the market. He helped us with the language (I only speak very little French) and which items were best. We wound up with some olives, sausage, cheese, fruit, and baguettes. From Sanary, we went to a local winery for a short tour and they were kind enough to let us use their wine cellar for our picnic instead of sitting outside in the record-setting heat. Laurent picked up on the fact that one of the people on our tour was taking photos and took us to a few very photogenic spots – Le Castellet (Medieval Town) and a Natural Park. We ended the tour with a stop in Cassis. Overall a very good day, despite the heat.

Marseille is a beautiful city that needs to be discovered. It is a melting pot of culture – colours – food and architecture. Laurent was the perfect guide to show us the diversity of the city and tasting amazing local sea food and other specialities.

We enlisted  Laurent Cygler (hereafter, Sam) to pick up us and our friends after we disembarked from a river cruise in Arles, and tour us around Provence before dropping us at the Marseille airport in the evening so we could catch our flights. We had a wonderful day with Sam. His knowledge of the area is vast, and his Mercedes SUV/van was very comfortable for all of us. We walked around Aix en Provence and Cassis, enjoying the fresh markets, landmark sites, and a fabulous lunch overlooking the Mediterranean. I highly recommend Sam!

Laurent was a terrific guide; friendly, informative and accommodating (we were traveling with a special needs child and ‘accommodating’ is a big deal for us). We hit the major highlights with Laurent and it left us able to explore some other areas more in depth after. If your cruise ship stops in Marseille, avoid the group tour and book with Laurent

By far our favorite tour we took during our 11 day vacation!

We would highly recommend this tour! Laurent was very knowledgeable and took us into many different places showing us the true melting pot that Marseilles is. We enjoyed seafood, Lebanese food, Algerian food, pizza and so much more. We would get to taste a little something at each place while he packed his picnic basket with items along the way. He also brought us into different types of shops along the way. We really got to see how true locals live in this area. The tour was finished off with a picnic at his home on his beautiful patio where we got to enjoy an array of food and drinks.

We had an amazing time with Sam! He’s thoughtful and funny and knows a lot about the region. We focused on small villages and had plenty of time in each. The highlight for me was seeing Lacoste after being a student there 30 years ago- a total treat to finally make it back. The market in Apt was also good. It felt like a mix of stuff for locals as well as tourists. With Sam’s help we were able to find some real treats from the region.
I requested a private family tour so that we could practice our rusty french and Sam was more than accommodating. He spoke to us slowly and clearly and was not bothered by having to switch back into english when we were stumped. It was like an intensive french course and we had a blast! If trying out your french is not your thing, just do the trip in english. It’ll be fantastic either way

Tom T,
A multicultural food tour of Marseille
We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour with Laurent, who gave us a contemporary view (and taste) of Marseille with an historical look at the city’s role in commerce and history. Laurent and Benjamin were very knowledgable and the tour was wonderfully paced for all those in our large party (11 people ranging from age 3 to 65). The make-up of Marseille was highlighted in a very ethnically diverse community that is juxtaposed on rich French tradition.
Laurent was excellent with the four children in our group as well and I would recommend him as a guide for those traveling with youngsters. We also appreciated the quick response to a shellfish allergy experienced within our group.

Informative yet hilarious tour of Marseille
Laurent was such a joy! He was very knowledgeable and handled our group of 10 women and one man effortlessly. We tasted fish at the market, he gave us each a lucky shell that he purchased from a vendor, we explored a spice and incense store, got some delicious pastries, tried out some authentic Algerian bread, learned about some interesting history of Marseille, and enjoyed a lovely patio picnic right in the back of his quaint French home. I highly recommend this tour and would do it again in an instant!

I loved this tour! Luckily there were still a lot of shops open as our tour was on Christmas Day. Laurent was very knowledgeable about the history of Marseille. He took us a lot of the middle eastern spots in marseille so i was able to try food i would otherwise never get. The food was great and so was the wine. What a nice way to explore a new city.

Our 8 hr tour with Sam Laurent was exceptional. We had some special needs given my Mom’s age of
93 and Sam turned his whole focus on how to make the tour easy for my Mom to get around and make
this a special experience for her. 100% success…she is still talking about it. Thoroughly entertaining!

We had an 8 hour tour with Laurent who showed us all the sites of Aix-en Provence, Arles, Cassis and other areas around Toulon where our ship docked. He is charming to say the least. Great sense of humor! We had so much fun with him and meeting all his market friends and visiting all his secret spots and special view points!

Laurent was a great tour guide! He took us to two different vineyards, showed us the midieval city of
Castellet, a quick stop in Cassis and then some wine tasting atop a beautiful cliff. Wow! If you’re looking
for a non cookie cutter tour, this is for you!

We really enjoyed our tour with Laurent. He has a very relaxed attitude and great sense of humor.
We did not feel like following somebody but a nice guy who shows us a great town with great food instead 🙂
We can highly recommend this tour, if you look for an uncomplicated, personal touch, definetily would do it again!

Thanks again Laurent, have a great time in Marseille!

On our recent cruise, we toured with Sam for three days during our port stops in Toulon, St. Tropez, and Monaco. Sam did a great job putting together interesting tours from each port. Each day was packed. He chose interesting spots for lunch each day. His van was comfortable and he was cognizant of my wife’s bad knee as we walked around. He was extremely knowledgeable of all the sites we saw and of the region in general. He also has a good sense of humor and is a really interesting guy. We would heartily recommend Sam to anyone visiting the region.

Laurent was an excellent guide for this informative and beautiful look at Marseille. We had signed up for the driving and walking 4-hour tour, but because of the heat, we were mostly in the car with stops for photos, and to get a close up look at some of the beautiful sites. Highlights of the tour included Notre-Dame de la Garde and spectacular views from a cliff high atop Cassis. Loved learning about the history of the area from Laurent! We had Marseille as a cruise ship stop and he picked us up and dropped us off right at the ship. Highly recommend this tour.
