The “things to do in Luberon” in 8 hours’ time? There are many things to do in and around the villages of Luberon!
We will arrive at your hotel or cruise ship with a comfortable, air-conditioned van. After an hour and a half drive through Provence we’ll arrive in the Luberon region.
Located in a magnificent valley surrounded by small mountains, the Luberon region is known for its gentle climate, blue skies and rich colors found in the soil and vegetation: the violet blue of lavender, the luminous limestone ridges, the greens of the forests and the unique colors of ochre cliffs ranging from red to orange to purple.
Thanks to its mild, Mediterranean climate, the Luberon has been able to preserve, over centuries, its important cultural heritage and the authenticity of its unique natural setting. A Regional National Park since 1977, the Luberon has cultivated its uniqueness with some of the most beautiful villages of Provence: Bonnieux, Roussillon, Gordes, Loumarin, Lacoste, Cadenet…….
These villages and many more bring to life the sun and luminosity at play in the Luberon. From the castles of La Tour d’Aigues, Lourmarin and Lacoste to the hilltop villages of Gordes and Bonnieux, each village of the Lubéron will entice you with its history, local products and artisanal works.
Things to do on an 8-hour tour.
Provence Amazing Tours will optimize your 8-hour tour by showing you the best the Luberon has to offer. Offen preched high on hilltops, the Luberon villages will give you exceptional views over the Provencal countryside.
You’ll stroll the narrow streets and take in the monuments, fountains and town squares so characteristic of the Luberon villages.
We’ll stop in Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Gordes is a marvel for the eyes. The striking panoramic views and it hamlets of “bories”, tiny homes made only of dried-laid stone which date back to the 18th century, is a Provencal time-traveler’s dream.
Next, we’ll visit Roussillon. There is no other village in such a stunning natural setting. It seems to rise right out of the ochre soil in hues of reds, yellows and greens all the way to purples. You’ll want to take the short walk to the top of the village and then to the cliffs to get a good idea of the changing colors.
Before arriving at the village of Bonnieux, you’ll see from afar, the bell tower of the church rising to 425 meter. It dominates the sumptuous countryside and watches over this magnificent hilltop village of the Luberon. Its terra cotta tiles dress the pretty houses along the hillside in lovely harmony of color and form.
After we’ve climbed the 86 stone steps from the Old Church, you’ll find yourselves under the shade of a centuries-old cedar grove which leads to the most superb panoramic view or the Vaucluse Mountains, and the villages of Gordes and Roussillon. You’ll admire the vast plains of vineyards, lavender, cereals and orchards. The Luberon bursting with luscious nature and splashed with sunshine is a staggering sight!
We’ll stop at a winery for a tasting and then on to visit a lavender distillery.
If you like, we could have a picnic or Provence Amazing Tours could make a restaurant reservation for your group (optional).
